Azerbaijan, Cuba to enhance economic cooperation

28 April 2009 [14:52] - TODAY.AZ
Prospects of Azerbaijan-Cuba economic cooperation will be discussed
during Cuba's governmental delegation's visit to Azerbaijan in
mid-May.
The second meeting of the intergovernmental trade and economic cooperation will take place in Baku as a part of the visit on May 16-20. The Cuban delegation will be led by the deputy foreign trade and investments minister, Cuban ambassador to Azerbaijan Marcelo Cabalero Torres said.

The Cuban delegation has introduced proposals to the chairman of the commission from Azerbaijan Abulfas Garayev, Torres said.

Ten documents which will be signed during the meeting have already been drafted. The agreements on culture, trade, sports, energy and ecology are expected to be signed during the meeting.

The first meeting of the inter-governmental commission was held in Cuba in November 2007.

"Cuba is interested in importing foodstuffs and oil equipment from Azerbaijan. I think Azerbaijani businessmen are more interested in Cuban cigarettes, rum, sugar and biotechnological products. Biologicals, medical services and biotechnological products are very
developed in Cuba. I think it can be interesting for Azerbaijan. In future we can exchange Cuban specialists on medicine and sports," he said.
