Deputy Nazim Mamedov: "Azerbaijani banks should not borrow credits from foreign investors, as they have their strategic goals"

12 December 2008 [10:17] - TODAY.AZ
If there is a need for funds on the internal market of Azerbaijan, I think this need must be met from internal reserves and not attract foreign investments, said member of the parliamentary commission on economic policy Nazim Mamedov.
The deputy noted that after the August events in Georgia, European bankers became concerned over making investments in the Caucasus and this also affected Azerbaijan.

"Everyone remembers restrictions in the operation of local banks while issuance of consumer credits. I am against borrowing credits from foreign investors by the Azerbaijani banks. This should not be done. I have told that the fact that there is a flag of a separate country in front of each bank will have its negative implications. By investing into small Azerbaijani banks, influential banks of European countries, pursue their strategic goals. We should be cautious with them", said Mamedov.
