Georgian President to attend fourth energy summit in Baku

28 October 2008 [18:00] - TODAY.AZ
President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili will attend the fourth energy summit to be held in Baku on November 14.
One of the main topics of the energy summit in Baku will be the Odessa-Brody pipeline to transport Caspian oil to the Central European states.

The route of the transportation of the Caspian oil to Europe will pass via Georgia: oil will go to the Georgian port of Supsa by existing system of oil pipelines. The transportation to Ukraine will further be conducted by tankers to the Yuzhniy port of Odessa and from there to Odessa-Brody by the Ukrainian pipeline.

Further transportation to Europe requires construction of separate sections of about 500 meters in length both in Ukraine and in Poland. The new Sarmatiya company was created during an energy summit in Vilnius for the purpose.

The first Caspian oil shipment is proposed to be pumped by the Odessa-Brody-Plotsk in late 2010 or in early 2011.

The first energy summit was held in Krakov in May of 2006, second in November of the last year in the Lithuanian capital and the third in May of this year in Kiev.

The fourth energy summit in Baku will also be attended by presidents of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko, Turkey Abdullah Gul, Poland Lech Kachinsky, Lithuania Valdas Adamkus, Estonia Toomas-Hendrick Ilves, Latvia Valdas Zatlers, Romania Trojan Basescu and other leaders of the states.
