The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan is negotiating with Russia on bringing the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline capacity to the projected capacity of 5,000,000 per day, SOCAR president Rovnag Abdullayev told reporters.
It should be noted that the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline has not yet passed to the projected capacity and maximal transportation by this pipeline makes 90,000 barrels per year.

In force majeure situations, including military actions in Georgia, oil was transported by Baku-Novorossiysk, but after BTC pipeline reopened, the oil from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunsehli fields is not transported by it.

"Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline pumps only the residual volumes of SOCAR oil. But as we are striving to diversify supplies to the world markets, we want to maintain all supply lines operable.

Therefore, we are negotiation with Russia on raising the pipeline capacities to 5,000,000 tons per year", said Abdullayev.
