Azerbaijani government assigns AZN 1,270,000 of grants for local NGOs

The Council under the President of Azerbaijan has declared a tender for best projects among NGOs, said member of the council, chairman of the public forum "Constitution" Alimamed Nuriyev.
He noted that the grants will be assigned for projects in 15 directions.

"NGOs will get grants on projects, connected with the situation in human rights, expansion of the freedom of speech and mass media, improvement of situation with electoral rights, settlement of problems of refugees and IDPs, resolution of problems in the sphere of health, science, combat with terrorism, propaganda of truth about Azerbaijan, improvement of national legislation", said Nuriyev.

Nuriyev announced that this is the first case of state assistance of nongovernmental organizations and the total amount, assigned for grants, makes AZN 1,270,000.

He said the grant fund makes AZN 90,000 in 13 directions. It makes AZN 30,000 in the sphere of improvement of legislation and AZN 70,000 in propaganda of Azerbaijan and strengthening of relations between local and foreign NGOs-AZN 70,000.

The maximal amount which can be assigned for one project is said to be AZN 20,000.

Nuriyev announced that the tender may involve only NGOs, which have passed state registration and the projects will be submitted until July 2. Beginning from late July, the declaration of the names of NGOs, which have won the tender, will start.
