Vegetables, imported from Turkey, dangerous for health

11 June 2008 [09:32] - TODAY.AZ
Rosselkhoznadzor banned import of Turkish vegetables to Russia due to Turkey's systematic violation of international and Russian requirements while supplying fruits and vegetables.
Day.Az reports with reference to Russia mass medias, ban is imposed on eggplants, tomatoes, plum and lemon, along with potatoes. Specialists state they are dangerous for health.

Experts announce that nitrate and pesticide level in Turkish vegetables may exceed the accepted norm by ten times. Nitrates and nitrites are dangerous for health as they are accumulated and not excreted from the organism. Constant use of production, containing pesticides or nitrites, may cause development of various diseases, including cancers.

It should be noted that Turkish vegetables (tomato, lemon, quince, apples and potatoes) are widely imported to Azerbaijan and sold in markets and in specialized points of vegetable and fruits sale.

Despite the ban, imposed on Turkish products in Russia, due instances in Azerbaijan are silent so far.
