Bulgaria Economy Minister to negotiate gas supply with Azerbaijan - UPDATED

Novosti-Azerbaijan reports that Bulgarian ambassador to Azerbaijan Ivan Paltsev said P.Dimitrov's official visit to Azerbaijan will start on June 2.

In the framework of the visit the Bulgarian Minister is expected to meet with Azerbaijan's Minister of Industry and Energy Natik Aliyev, SOCAR president Rovnag Abdullayev, Economic Development Minister Heydar Babayev.

Dimitrov will also be received by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

Petar Dimitrov will take part in the official opening of the 15th jubillee International Caspian Petrol and Gas conference to be held in the sport complex named after Heydar Aliyev in Baku on June 3-6.

The Bulgarian Minister will also attend the international conference "Role of oil and gas resources of the Caspian Sea in energy supply of Europe", to be held in the framework of the exhibition from June 4-5.

Bulgarian ambassador to Azerbaijan Ivan Paltsev noted that Mister Dimitrov will discuss with officials the details of purchase of natural gas from the Shah Deniz field, as well as prospects of NABUCCO gas pipeline project.

"Bulgaria intends to purchase 1 bln cubic meters of Shah Deniz gas from Azerbaijan each year. The sides maintain an agreement on it. The gas will be supplied to Bulgaria via existing Baku-Tbilisi-Erzerum gas pipeline. The volume of natural gas purchase from Azerbaijan can be raised with implementation of NABUCCO project", announced the diplomat.

The visit will end on June 6.

Bulgarian Economy and Energy Minister Petar Dimitrov will travel to Azerbaijan to participate in the 15th conference and exhibit "Caspian Petrol and Gas".

The conference will take place in the capital Baku from June 2 to June 5 parallel with a meeting of a joined working group for collaboration in the energy area.

During his visit Dimitrov will meet with Azerbaijan's Industry Minister and the Minister of Economic Development.

The main goal of the visit is the signing of a Protocol of Intentions between Bulgarian's Economy and Energy Ministry and the Ministry of Energy and Industry of Azerbaijan containing a clause for the initiation of negotiations between gas companies the two countries.

The Minister will also meet with representatives of the State Oil Company (SOCAR).
