Azerbaijan invests $2 bln to transport sector development

In 2008 Azerbaijan invested $2 bln to development of the transport sector.
According to Novosti-Azerbaijan, the due announcement was made by deputy Transport Minister Musa Panakhov speaking at the opening of the 7th annual international exhibition "Transport, transit and logistics" (TransCaspian-2008).

He said the funds are aimed at development of local internal roads, as well as railway, water and air infrastructure.

Panakhov noted that the transport sphere receives special attention of the country's leadership. Large oil and gas projects, such as Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzirum have been implemented and construction of a sea port in Alyati started under the leadership of the President.

"Currently, the most important projects in the sphere of transport include creation of the effective transport management system of Baku and construction of a seaport in Alyati.

The latter will help transport cargo of over 10 mln tons. He stressed the importance of the fact that the projects involve the Azerbaijani companies", Panakhov concluded.
