Second Jordan exhibition and Azerbaijan-Jordan business-forum held in Baku - UPDATED

The second Jordan exhibition and Azerbaijan-Jordan business forum opened in Baku today with participation of President Ilgam Aliyev and king of Jordan Abdullah 2.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and country's first lady Mehriban Aliyeva, King of Jordan Abdulla 2 and his spouse Rania took part in the Jordan exhibition, according to AzerTag.

The heads of states familiarized with the exhibition, which featured parfumery, building, electric and technical, food and industry production, medical and domestic equipment.

The presidents of both countries were informed about this production in details.

President I.Aliyev was presented a board featuring one of the ancient Jordan cities Petra, which is one of the tourism centers of the world, as well as an incrusted sadj. Mehriban khanum was presented a parfumery basket and an Arabian headscarf.

According to Day.Az, the exhibition and forum featured over 80 entrepreneurs from Jordan and 150 from Azerbaijan, representing such economic spheres as pharmaceuticals, light and heavy industry, finance, tourism and others.

Deputy Economic Development Minister of Azerbaijan Mikail Jabbarov told at the opening ceremony of the business forum, that Azerbaijan and Jordan have good potential for cooperation in the sphere of agriculture, pharmaceuticals, production of building materials and others.

"Moreover, functioning of Amman-Baku air flight opens wide potential for cooperation in the sphere of tourism", he added calling on Jordan entrepreneurs to take part in the projects on development of the non-oil sector of Azerbaijan, in particular, in development of infrastructure.

"Though the per capita GDP in Jordan is 10-12% lower than in Azerbaijan, it should be taken into account that the country lacks oil factor. This proves that Jordan's experience may be useful for development of the non-oil economic sector", said Jabbarov.

He noted that this year the volume of commodity turnover between the countries may rise significantly owing to contracts, concluded between business establishments, including, in the framework of such forums. It should be noted that commodity turnover between the two countries made up $1,291,800 by results of 2007.

According to the chief executive of the Jordan Investment Council Maen Nsour, Jordan has good prospects for investing. Moreover, sector of electric energy and renewable energy sources, financial sector, light industry and others are developed in the country.

It should be noted that business-forum has been arranged by the Jordan Ministry of Industry and Trade in cooperation with the Azerbaijan Ministry of Economic Development and Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO).

The exhibition will end on May 9.
