Azerbaijan plans to gather 2,300,000 tons of wheat this year.


The due announcement was made by Aslan Abbasov, deputy Minister of Agriculture, who visited Ganja.

Abbasov noted that in 2008 the sown area of winter grain made up 818,000 hectares, which is 134,000 hectares higher, as compared to 2007. According to the deputy minister, after president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an order to allocate state subsidies in the amount of AZN 40 per hectare to farmers, the expansion of sowing areas is observed.

The country's yearly demand for grain nears 3,000,000 tons. According to Aslanov, currently Azerbaijan's grain fund makes up 600,000 tons.
