Azerbaijani government to consider new proposals on targeted social assistance

08 April 2008 [14:14] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Labor and Social Protection has sent to the Government a package of proposals for amendment of the Targeted Social Assistance Law.
The proposals have been discussed with the Ministries of Justice and Finance and If approved by the government, the amendment will come effective in May.

Natig Gasimov, the ministry officer for poverty and social assistance, said applicants receive targeted social assistance benefits from 1st day of a month if he applies before 15th day of the month but he receive it from the 1st day of next month if he applies after the 15th day of the month.

“We propose that applicants receive benefits from the first day of the same month irrespective of their application date. Besides, we propose the foreigners also receive targeted social assistance benefits. One more change is related to limitation. Now a family loses the right to receive benefits for two years if it attempts to cheat or hide information about their status. We suggest cutting this period to one year. Benefits are received for six months now, but we propose to double the period to one year,” he added.

The Targeted Social Assistance Law was adopted in December, 2005 and granted since June 1, 2006.
