Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran to meet in Baku for North-South Transport Corridor

Nadir Azmammadov, Press secretary of Azerbaijan State Railway Company (ADDY), said the parties are due to sign an agreement to set up a consortium for implementation of the planned activities. He said the railway officials of the three countries concluded in Tehran on March 29 that all the paperwork will be prepared within a month to set up the workgroup, and then, the agreement will be signed.

Heads of railways of Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan signed a trilateral memorandum on mutual understanding on March 29 on the conditions for building the Gazvin-Rasht-Astara rail line, which is part of the International North-South Transport Corridor.

Russia, Iran and India launched negotiations on establishment of the North-South Corridor in September, 2000 and final agreement was reached on May 11, 2002. Azerbaijan joined the project in 2005.
