Internet tariffs to fall significantly in Azerbaijan next month

29 February 2008 [16:45] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies is exploring ways of trimming down prices of internet services in the country.

Deputy Minister Iltimas Mammadov said the issue is in the focus of attention at present.

According to him, there will be a notable fall in prices in March.

“I think, there will be new prices in March. Baku Telephone Communications Unit, AzTelecom and several other providers have made proposals for expansion of the broadband Internet services. The proposals will offer a price fall,” he added.

He refused to elaborate on how much the price fall will be.

“We will have discussions with the internet provider today and tomorrow, and new prices will be set. Anyway, we will try to achieve a price fall equivalent to the increasing internet traffic to Azerbaijan and the decrease in prices of it. The price fall will be remarkable,” he added.

Mr. Mammadov added that the internet service prices are not regulated by the Tariff Council but set by the market conditions.
