25 February 2008 [14:22] - TODAY.AZ
The outflow of migrants from Azerbaijan has not weakened lately.

The due announcement was made by Alovsat Aliyev, president of the public association "Migration Center of Azerbaijan".

He said the factor of specialization should be mentioned here.

"As a rule, those, engaged in political activity, leave the country more frequently in the year of elections".

He said the number of mass media representatives, who apply for consultations regarding migration, account for a greater part of mass media representatives.

He also added that people want to get more information about the country, which means the increased level of population's enlightenment in the sphere of migration.

He said despite announcements of some officials and even the head of state that the socioeconomic development of country's regions led to a serious breakthrough in the combat with outflow of the population.

"Certainly, there is a progress, but it is not so serious as it is declared. The problem of employment has been settled only partially".

Alovsat Aliyev said the assets earned by our labor migrants abroad make up 70% of family budget of Azerbaijani residents of rural areas

He does not consider that foreign labor forces may create any serious problems on the labor market in Azerbaijan, as they are mostly investors, bringing new specialties, new spheres of production here.

"Azerbaijan has recently initiated measures to stiffen migration policy. It can not be said that migration processes are completely under our control, therefore these processes can not fully serve the development of our country. Our citizens, working abroad, are just playing a significant role in formation of Azerbaijani economy", he concluded.
