Gas tariffs not to rise in Azerbaijan this year

17 January 2008 [17:03] - TODAY.AZ
It is not planned to raise tariffs of gas for the population in 2008.

The due information has been provided by AzeriGaz president Alikhan Melikov.

He also reported that Azerbaijan will not import gas. "Country's gas reserves allow meeting the inner demand of Azerbaijan, therefore, there is no need for imports", he said.

According to Melikov, Azerbaijan stopped gas imports from Russia in 2007. "We, ourselves, will export gas to other countries. The talks on the issue are currently held with Iran".

Touching upon the gas export to Nakhchivan, AzeriGaz president noted that there are no problems with gas supply to the Autonomous Republic.

"Iran has already restarted gas supply to Nakhchivan. Though in late December-early January the volume of gas imported from Iran fell down due to cold weather, now Nakhchivan is supplied with over 1 million cubic meters of gas per day, while we export 1.3 million cubic meters from Astara to Iran", Melikov said.
