14 January 2008 [14:56] - TODAY.AZ
An underground gas reservoir and electric stations, operating on gas and fuel oil are planned to be created in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic to avoid energy crisis, according to the official website of the President of Azerbaijan.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev instructed the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan to study the situation in NAR for construction of underground reservoirs of a capacity of 300 million cubic meters of gas.

Moreover, the government was instructed to study the possible construction of an electric station operating on gas and fuel oil.

According to Ilham Aliyev, the construction of the gas reservoir will help reduce energy dependence of the Autonomous Republic on Iran.

He announced that due to sharp deterioration of weather conditions, Iran stopped gas supply to Nakhchivan, which caused energy problems.

"In order to avoid such problems we must undertake urgent measures. If underground gas reservoirs are constructed in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, we will be able to save gas so that to use it in case of unforeseen situations. We must consider our technical potential", the head of state said.
