Mingechevir-Tbilisi-Akhaltsikhe-Kars power line work to be activated

The work on construction of a 500-KV power line linking Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia will be activated in the nearest future.

Azerenergy told APA-Economics that the supply line will pave the way for energy stability in Azeri and Georgian power systems and enable the parallel operation of three countries' national power grids and connection to the European and global energy network.

40% of the power lines have to be repaired throughout the project. 90% of Georgia's infrastructure needs rehabilitating.

"The situation is much worse in Turkey. New lines and substations should be constructed in Turkey," said Azerenergy official Hajimahmud Abdullayev.

Azerenergy Vice President Marlen Asgarov the project is under active negotiations between the parties and the concerned states have reached political agreement.

The power line will begin from Mingechevir (Azerbaijan) to Tbilisi-Akhaltsikhe (Georgia) onward to Kars (Turkey).
