Russia doesn't mind Azerbaijan’s pulling its broadcasters off the air

14 March 2007 [15:42] - TODAY.AZ
Russia's ORT and RTR have applied Azerbaijan to renew the agreement for continuation of broadcasts to this country.

Azerbaijan Teleradio Union Officer Vagif Sultanov told APA-Economics that because the National Television and Radio Council passed a decision to pull the both broadcasters off the air from July 1, the union offered them to ink a contract for legal broadcasts until this date, but unanswered.

He added that Russia doesn't object to the Council's decision to pull this country's channels off the air.

Sultanov acknowledged that the broadcasts are commercial but the Council's decision is due to be implemented while the restoration is possible after the bilateral agreement.

The National Television and Radio Council of Azerbaijan made a decision to pull RTR and ORT off the air from July 1, saying foreign broadcasts should be available through satellite only.
