Dow hits new all-time high

02 February 2007 [15:09] - TODAY.AZ
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) closed at a record high following investor confidence in inflation and the economy.

On Friday, the DJIA closed at 12,673.68 after a rise of 51.99 points breaking the one-day-old record of 12,657.02 set the day before.

Strong investment into a number of companies boosted the DJIA. For Exxon Mobil, the largest publicly traded integrated oil and gas company in the world, shares increased by 1.3 per cent and chemical company DuPont saw a rise of 2 per cent.

Investment has been strong since Thursday's announcement from Federal Reserve who indicated that the economy remained stable and that inflation was largely under control.

Strong advances were seen across the mark with the Nasdaq composite index up by 4.45 to 2,468.38 and the Russell 2000 ending the day on 807.77, up by 7.43.
