Stocks soared Wednesday afternoon amid the Federal Reserve, as expected before, left short-term interest rates unchanged at 5.25 percent, and showing that the economy remains healthy and that inflation pressures are easing gradually.

The Dow Jones industrial average jumped 98.38, or 0.79 percent, to 12,621.69; the Standard & Poor's 500 index went up 9.42, or 0.66 percent, to 1,438.24, and Nasdaq gained 15.29, or 0.62 percent, the APA reports.

The German DAX 30 rose 0.01% to 6789.11, the French CAC 40 lost 0.66% to 5608.31, while the U.K. FTSE 100 fell 0.63% to reach 6203. Japan’s Nikkei stock average closed down 0.61 percent.
