Arif Valiyev: "GDP rose by 36.2% in Azerbaijan in January-June"

Gross Domestic Product has risen 36.3% to AZN 7.1bn within January-June in Azerbaijan. Production constituted 68.6% of GDP.

The production rose by 5.7% in the state sector last month, State Statistical Committee chairman Arif Valiyev stated at a press conference on macroeconomic indicators of economic and social development of Azerbaijani economy in first half of 2006.

He said that AZN 2.6bn has been invested in construction sphere since early this year and this indicator represents an increase of 7.9% as against last year first half. Physical persons working at the sphere of transportation carried cargo of 67.3mn and 511.6mn people. People, institutions and others used communications service of AZN 250.1mn.

He also said that there are 58 stationary telephones and 31 mobile phones per 100 people.

He said that development of the economy directly caused the income rise of the population. In fist half of the year incomes of the population rose 19.6% as against last year respective period. Per capita income reached AZN 580.7.

Retail turnover of the goods rose 12% to AZN 2.7bn and paid services rose 34.6% to AZN 603.6mn.

Mr. Valiyev also stated that various goods of $2 472.5mn was exported to foreign countries in past five months, APA reports.

Export rose 2.3 times and import decreased by 5.8% to $1 666.1mn this year as against last year. Import of goods to Azerbaijan decreased by 15.8% and imports from CIS countries rose 16.4% this year. Savings of population in banks rose 36.8% this year to AZN 581.4mn.
