Azerbaijani developers have patented a prototype of a tactile keyboard allowing to work with the layout of any alphabet, project leader Rusif Huseynov told Trend on June 13.

The project is implemented with the financial support of the State Fund for Development of Information Technologies.

Huseynov said that the prototype device will be presented to the public in the coming days.

“As it’s known, QWERTY is the most popular Latin keyboard layout. This keyboard may also contain Cyrillic letters. When the users switch to another language, for example to Azerbaijani Latin layout, they often have to guess the positions of “?”, “ö”, “ü” and other letters, the project leader said. “The working principle of our keyboard is that users can visually see the letters on keys each time they switch to the desired language. That is, keys will display letters of the Azerbaijani alphabet in the transition to the Azerbaijani language.”

Each key will visually look like a small screen as electronic paper is used to display the letters. The advantage is that alphabet of any language can be programmed into this keyboard, including hieroglyphics of Japanese, Chinese and other languages.

Huseynov noted that the issue of industrial production of the keyboard is still a subject of debate. “As for its final price, we will try to make it accessible to a wide range of users.”
