Azerbaijan, China mull cooperation in ICT

Azerbaijan and China discussed expansion of the cooperation in the ICT sphere.

Azerbaijan’s Economy Ministry reported that the discussions were held as part of the meeting of Economy Minister Shahin Mustafayev with Huawei’s President for Central Asia and Caucasus Region, James Chen that took place during the Azerbaijani delegation’s visit to China.

The sides considered cooperation in the ICT sphere and noted that the economic relations between Azerbaijan and China continue to develop.

As part of the visit, Mustafayev also met with Vice-President of CAMC Engineering Co. Ltd Chen Yufang, where the sides discussed the prospects of development of cooperation.

The ICT sector is considered to be one of the crucial spheres for the further development of the economy and an integral part of the economic and political reforms which are currently implemented in Azerbaijan.

The country, which is a regional leader in the ICT sector, intends to expand its international cooperation to further develop the sector. The income obtained in the sector in Azerbaijan is projected to hit $9 billion by 2020.

Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and China amounted to $395.56 million in January-April 2017, some $183.79 million of which accounted for the export to China.

China is a huge opportunity and a priority market for Azerbaijan. More than 50 agreements were signed between the two countries so far. The two countries have great potential in energy, transport, in high technology and tourism.
