Flights from Moscow's new airport to Baku to open in March

Russian airline Pegas Fly will start operating flights to Baku from Moscow's new international airport Zhukovsky from March 14.

The airline was earlier supposed to carry out the flights from February 13 to March 25 under the winter season.

“The implementation of flights by Pegas Fly from Zhukovsky to Baku and in the opposite direction under the winter schedule was to have been implemented from February 13 to March 25 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays with arrival in Baku at 03:15 and departure at 04:30, and also on Fridays from February 17 with arrival at 03:15 and departure at 05:35,” said the press service of the Heydar Aliyev International Airport.

However, the airline made a decision on January 30 on cancelling all flights from February 13 and rescheduling it to March 13.

Therefore, Pegas Fly will start its flights en route Baku-Moscow-Baku (four times a week) from March 14.  Starting from March 26, when the summer schedule will come into force, the flights from Zhukovsky to Baku will be operated every day, the Heydar Aliyev airport said.

Zhukovsky airport is Moscow's fourth international airport. After the 2014-2016 reconstruction there was the official opening of Zhukovsky International Airport on May 30, 2016. The declared capacity of the new airport is 4 million passengers per year. Currently, flights from the Zhukovsky International airport are being served by 5 airlines to several destinations in Russia and CIS.

Currently, several Russian air carriers operate flights to Azerbaijan's capital Baku and some other cities of the country.

In 2016, the number of tourists visiting Azerbaijan amounted to 2,242 million people and this is 11.7 percent more than in 2015. The majority of tourists, one third of them, came from Russia.
