Azerbaijani tourism sector wants to lure Japanese tourists

Japanese are found of travelling. Sometimes it feels like Japanese tourists are everywhere. They have a passion for travel and every country will be very pleased to welcome them, as Japanese are known as very polite travelers.

As Japan is ranked just behind China in terms of the number of outbound travelers, Azerbaijan, which works hard to develop its tourism sector, now targets on attracting Japanese tourists.  

Azerbaijan or Land of Fire, has appeared not so long ago on the tourism map of world. The country with its favorable geographical location, rich natural landscape and numerous objects of historical and cultural heritage is a good place for the development of tourism.

After attracting thousands of tourists from Persian Gulf countries this year, now Azerbaijan is keen to "beckon" tourists from Eastern Asia.  

Azerbaijan Tourism Association Chairman Nahid Bagirov said that in order to attract Japanese tourists to Azerbaijan representatives of the major Japan tourism association with more than 10,000 members visited Baku.

"We take part in mutual tourism exhibitions. Japanese are considered as very efficient and profitable tourists. As they are not traveling alone and usually attract other Japanese tourists," he said.

The main issue, according to Bagirov is a huge distance between the two countries.

Although, the AzTa chairman said that Japanese like to visit not only Azerbaijan, but also the Caucasus region.

After choosing development of its non-oil sector as the priority in improving the country's economy, Azerbaijan makes everything possible to use its natural advantages to develop the tourism sector of the country, implementing various projects and programs for attracting tourists to the Land of Fire.

These efforts gave fruit and in a short period of time the country was able to raise the quality level of its tourism sector. Today, Azerbaijan is a favorite destination for over 2.5 million tourists visiting the country every year.
