Azerbaijan, Cambodia keen to develop tourism relations

Cambodia is ready to provide favorable business conditions for Azerbaijani companies interested in the tourism sector of the Southeast Asian state.

Perspectives of cooperation in the sphere of tourism, in particular, flow of tourists, and attraction of Azerbaijani investors to the tourism sector of Cambodia were high on agenda during the meeting between Azerbaijan`s Ambassador to Cambodia Anar Imanov and Tourism Minister of Cambodia Thong Khon.

Khon, addressing the meeting expressed his intention to pay a visit to Azerbaijan in 2017 to thoroughly discuss issues of mutual cooperation and to create a contractual and legal basis of the bilateral relations.  

In particular, the sides are aiming to sign a MoU on cooperation in the sphere of tourism.

Hailing the importance of the visit of Cambodian Prime Minister to Azerbaijan in April 2014, Imanov said that the visit gave a stimulus for the development of cooperation in different spheres, including tourism.

The ambassador expressed the readiness of Azerbaijan to share its experience in the tourism sphere, mentioning that the two countries possess favorable basis for cooperation.

Being located in the heart of mainland Southeast Asia, Cambodia offers a vast range of investment incentives to investors.

Tourism is increasingly becoming one of the major contributors in Cambodia’s economy. The European Council on Tourism and Trade (EECT) earlier announced Cambodia as the “World’s Best Tourism Destination” and as receiver of the “Favorite Cultural Destination” distinction for 2016.

Bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Cambodia increased in recent times. Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral consultations between the countries was signed in 2014, the year, which marked the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Cambodia
