Georgian PM: Azerbaijan is main supplier of natural gas to Georgia

09 February 2016 [18:30] - TODAY.AZ

“Azerbaijan is the main supplier of natural gas to Georgia. We successfully cooperate with Azerbaijan in all spheres, including energy,” Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili said in an interview with local media.

Kvirikashvili dismissed allegations that Georgia plans to buy natural gas from Gazprom, calling them “groundless”.

“We just get 12 percent of transit fees for transportation of natural gas which Gazprom sells to Armenia. Russia wants to repay us the transit fee in cash. But we want to receive it in the form of natural gas. These talks have no political overtones, and we can say that our negotiations [with Gazprom] have been completed,” said Kvirikashvili.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed that Azerbaijan is a strategic partner of Georgia. “We are effectively cooperating in all spheres, including energy sector, and our cooperation in this area will continue in the future,” Kvirikashvili said.
