Kuwaiti businessmen eye Azerbaijan's market

Kuwaiti businessmen are interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan.

Kuwaiti Ambassador Saud Abdulaziz Mohammad Al Shamlanom al Roumi made the remark in a meeting with Head of the Azerbaijani State Migration Service Firudin Nabiyev in Baku on October 6.

He praised the inter-governmental agreement abolishing visa requirements for diplomats and persons with special passports signed during the first session of the Kuwaiti-Azerbaijani intergovernmental commission on cooperation in 2011.

Roumi also reminded about an aviation agreement signed between the two countries this May and expressed the hope that the flights between Kuwait and Azerbaijan will be carried out in the near future.

The agreement is aimed to boost commercial cooperation in between a number of airlines from both countries to facilitate passenger traffic. It also includes the exchange of traffic rights, a number of privileges and opportunities to improve the coordination in civil aviation safety.

The sides also exchanged views on further expansion of cooperation in migration and crisis with migrants in Europe.

Nabiyev, for his part, informed the participants about the measures on simplifying procedures for legal stay of foreign citizens in the territory of Azerbaijan.

He also went on estimating the increase of mutual visits between the two countries.

Azerbaijan and Kuwait established diplomatic relations in 1994.

Both countries being subject of military occupation and aggression by neighboring countries in the early 90s were primarily engaged in overcoming foreign occupation and managing its dreadful consequences.

The Kuwaiti government and charity organizations were among the first ones, which stretched their hand of assistance to Azerbaijan to alleviate humanitarian situation of refugees and internally displaced persons.

The country supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

The Azerbaijani embassy in Kuwait opened in late 2004 and the Kuwaiti Embassy in Baku began to function in 2006.

Establishment of the Azerbaijani embassy in Kuwait and Kuwait’s embassy in Azerbaijan fostered development of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Mutually beneficial cooperation between the countries further broadened and deepened encompassing the areas like finance, economy, trade commerce, tourism and investment.
