The World Bank is interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan.

The remark was made at a meeting between Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov with Michelle Rebosio, the World Bank Social Development Specialist in Baku on June 19.

Hasanov noted that the development of cooperation between the two sides is very important.

The deputy prime minister also touched upon social issues of Azerbaijanis, who became refugees and IDPs as a result of Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

After laying territorial claims against its South Caucasus neighbor that caused a brutal war in the early 1990s, Armenia occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and its seven adjacent regions.

Rebosio, for her part, noted that Azerbaijan is developing more and more year by year.

“Azerbaijan takes all necessary measures for the further development of cooperation between the two sides,” she noted.

Azerbaijan has been a member of the WB since 1992. Total liabilities of the bank to the country have amounted to over $3 billion on 54 projects during this period. About $1.7 billion was allocated to the implementation of the road-transport projects.
