Iran invites Azerbaijani businessman to invest in Ardebil’s Germi

Representatives of a number of Azerbaijani trade and investment companies sat together for talks on ways to invest in the border city of Ardabil province.

The Azerbaijani representatives met with Mahmoud Alaei, Governor of Ardabil’s Germi Moghan County on November 27, IRNA news agency reported.

The Iranian officials have repeatedly invited the Azerbaijani businessmen and investors to invest in the Iranian economy.

Addressing at the meeting, Alaei said necessary grounds are prepared for investment and economic activities of domestic and foreign investors in the city.

He pointed to the capacities of the city in the field of tourism, livestock breeding, agriculture, and 93 km joint borders with Azerbaijan as Germi’s capabilities in the field of economic activities.

Germi Moghan which has recently joined Aras Industrial-Trade Zone has the longest joint border with Azerbaijan in north of Ardebil.

Alaei further remarked that unique specifications of Germi have been outlined in meetings with Azerbaijani officials and Iran’s ambassador to Azerbaijan. He added that activities of Azerbaijani investors and businessmen in Germi will be welcomed.

Stressing that the area allocated to the operation of the market in Germi trade area can be expanded to over 500 hectares, Alaei said the grounds will be prepared for Azerbaijani businessmen investment in Germi soon in a meeting with Ardebil governor general.

Meanwhile, Natiq Ahmedov, one of the Azerbaijani representatives said Germi is appropriate for investment due to its geographical conditions and called on the officials to make efforts for provision of infrastructures in the city.

Moazami, an economist and expert in customs affairs pointed to the border in Moghan region as the only inexpensive and safe gate for gaining access to Russian markets.

Saying that Iranian and Russian markets can be fruitful in thwarting the sanctions in the interest of the two countries, he pointed to the tax exemption in transactions of trade zones and called on the investors to make investment in Germi.

Iran and Azerbaijan have had diplomatic relations since 1918. Iran recognized Azerbaijan's independence in 1991, and diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992.

Tehran has in recent years focused seriously on development of ties with neighboring countries, including Azerbaijan which enjoys various commonalties with Iran in religious, historical and cultural fields.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Iran stood at $144.045 million in January-September 2014, according to the State Customs Committee (SCC) of Azerbaijan.

In the past nine months, goods worth $115.6 million were imported to Azerbaijan, and the goods exported by the country amounted to $28.45 million.
