French company to build 28 May metro station

Baku Metro CJSC and the French company Bouygues Travaux Publics, LLS signed a contract for design and construction works at the 28 May metro station as part of a project on development of the Baku metro and separation of metro lines.

Bouygues SA said the total cost of the project is 147 million euros. The contract envisages the establishment of two branches, that will enable the construction of new tunnels.

Based on the contract, works are scheduled to start in February 2015. About 250 people will be employed for the construction works in the peak period.

Along with the division of the red ("Hazi Aslanov" - "Icherisheher") and green ("Darnagul" - "Khatai") lines and use of transitional metro stations "28 May-Jafar Jabbarli" and "Hazi Aslanov-Hazi Aslanov-2" the problems with the passenger transportation in Baku will be resolved.

Also, it will ensure the transportation of passengers from the Old Gunashli, New Gunashli, Old Ahmedli, New Ahmedli, Zych, Hovsan and Garachukhur settlements to the center of Baku.

The subway network is developing rapidly in the Azerbaijani capital Baku. With a length of thirty-five kilometers, two lines and 23 stations, Baku Metro is in focus of some leading international companies.

The network of Baku subway is expected to get enlarged to 119 km with five lines and up to 76 stations by 2030. Right now, eight stations and two train depots are under construction.

Some subways are also expected to be opened in the most populated and developed cities of the country, including Sumgayit, Nakhchivan and Ganja.

The new stations of Baku Metro will be built based on the most modern technologies. They would be equipped with modern platforms, lobbies, escalators as well as new signaling and control systems.

Also, Baku Metro will change its appearance in the coming years and will make new stations based on the most modern technologies.

New stations are designed for trains consisting of 7 cars. The new stations' platforms would be 144m making the platforms 42 cm longer than pervious ones.

The new stations would be equipped with modern platforms, lobbies, escalators as well as new signaling and control systems.

As is known, the need for the medical centers in the underground usually increases in the warm seasons, especially in hot summer months. In this regard, Baku Metro plans to have a life-saving novelty in the near future.

Currently, the issue of creation of health centers at the stations of the Baku Metro is under discussion.

Also, Passengers of the Baku Metro often encounter problems when loading money on travel cards through payment machines, in this case, passengers may refer to the controller.

So, Baku Metro plans to complete upgrading its payment devices as well.
