Azerbaijan, Brazil discuss further cooperation

Azerbaijani and Brazilian officials sat for talks over further cooperation between the two sides.

During his visit to Baku, Brazilian Sports Minister Aldo Rebelo held talks with Azerbaijani officials on a number of issues in the sphere of sport.

Prime Minister Artur Rasizade received Rebelo and his accompanying delegation on November 6.

The sides underlined that reciprocal visits of top officials will give an impetus to Brazil-Azerbaijan relations.

They noted that the development of bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Brazil would be fruitful in all areas, including sports.

Active participation of Brazilian citizens in the international projects, humanitarian forums and sport events hosted by Azerbaijan was underscored by the parties.

The sides underlined that there are great capacities for development of fruitful cooperation between them.

They also called for expertise exchange, as Brazil will host the Summer Olympics in 2016 and Azerbaijan will hold the European Games next year.

Parliamentary Speaker Ogtay Asadov also met the Brazilian minister.

Asadov highlighted cooperation between the two countries in a variety of fields, as well as Azerbaijan`s rapid development and its role in ensuring Europe's energy security.

The speaker hailed the role of reciprocal visits and interparliamentary ties in strengthening of the bilateral cooperation.

Asadov stressed the importance of experience exchange between two sides in the field of sports.

Highlighting Azerbaijan`s sports achievements, he said Azerbaijan would host the First European Games in 2015 and the Islamic Solidarity Games in 2017.

The speaker also provided an insight into the cause and consequences of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, adding that Yerevan still refuses to observe the UN Security Council`s resolutions and documents of other international organizations on the settlement of the dispute.

Rebelo praised Azerbaijan`s achievements in the field of sports saying mutual experience exchange would contribute to developing cooperation between Azerbaijan and Brazil.

Earlier on November 5, Azerbaijan`s Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov and Brazilian Minister met to sign an action plan for cooperation in the field of sports.

Rahimov noted that the document would make an important contribution to further development of cooperation in the field of sports.
