29 September 2014 [15:09] - TODAY.AZ

Azerbaijan’s Finance Minister Samir Sharifov is participating in the World Economic Forum that kicked off in Turkey’s Istanbul city on Sept.29, Azerbaijani Finance Ministry said.

The forum is being attended by over 500 senior officials of government, as well as businessmen, representatives of financial institutions and civil society, well-known scholars and experts from over 70 countries.

The World Economic Forum was founded in January 1971 when a group of European business leaders met under the patronage of the European Commission and European industrial associations. German-born Klaus Schwab, then Professor of Business Policy at the University of Geneva, chaired the gathering, which took place in Davos, Switzerland. The organization was subsequently incorporated as a not-for-profit foundation.

Baku hosted the Davos Economic Forum with participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in April 2013.

Azerbaijan ranked 38th among 144 countries in the last Global Competitiveness Report for 2014-2015 of the World Economic Forum.
