Azercosmos, the largest satellite operator in the Caucasus, has said it will soon announce the winner of a tender for construction of Azerbaijan`s second communications satellite.
According to Azercosmos, the results of the tender, which sees only American companies bidding, will be made public by the end of February.
Azercosmos received more than $1.5m from the US Trade and Development Agency for launching its second satellite.
Azerbaijan put its first communications satellite into orbit on February 7, 2013. Built by American Orbital Sciences Corporation, it was launched from Kourou in French Guiana. The satellite was launched aboard Ariane 5. It is designed to cover Europe and significant part of Asian countries and Africa and have transmission for TV, radio broadcasting and the Internet.
