USA, Azerbaijan sign MOU on ICT

The U.S. State Department and Azerbaijani Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies are planning to sign a memorandum of understanding on information and communication technologies, the US ambassador in Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar stated during his meeting with Azerbaijani Minister of Communication and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov, the ministry report stated on Saturday.

Morningstar's said the document will be signed within the IGF-Internet Governance Forum, which will be held in Baku in the framework of the BakuTel-2012 International Telecommunications exhibition to be held on November 6-9.

The U.S. delegation is being headed by U.S, deputy assistant secretary of state and the coordinator on international relations and information policy Philip Verveer.

In turn, Ali Abbasov presented information on reforms held in the Republic in information and communication technologies, the realisation of the Trans-Eurasian Information Super Highway

Project (TASIM) construction project, the launch of Azerspace-1 telecommunication satellite and cooperation with the USA within this project, including with Microsoft and the establishment of a data centre by the company to the ambassador.

The ministry head also spoke on an 'E-Government' creation in the country and the use of international experience in this area, including that of the U.S.
