Azerbaijani banks' deposit base jumps

In June 2012, deposit base of Azerbaijani banks decreased by 1.8 per cent, while as compared to June 2011 - by 19.4 percent, a statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) said on Monday.

According to the CBA, in early July, the total amount of bank deposits and deposits of legal entities and individuals amounted to 9.704.3 billion manat compared to 9.884.5 billion manat as of early June 2012, and 8.126.8 billion manat - as of early July 2011.

Some 4.501.7 billion manat of this volume fell to funds in manat, 5.202.5 billion manat - in foreign currency.

In June individuals' deposits increased by 0.7 percent and the volume of deposits of legal entities decreased by 3.8 percent. Deposits of individual customers increased by 26.7 percent compared to June 2011, while deposits of corporate clients - by 14 percent.

By early July, the volume of individuals' deposits in the country's banks amounted to 5.331.7 billion manat compared to 5.542.8 billion manat in early June, and 4.675.3 billion manat - as of July 1, 2011.

By early July, the volume of deposits of non-financial organizations amounted to 2.824.6 billion manat compared to 3.092.1 billion manat as of early June, and 2.478.5 billion manat as of July 1, 2011.

There are 44 banks in Azerbaijan, one of which has no permission to accept deposits. Other banks are members of the Azerbaijan Deposit Insurance Fund.
