
The legislative base of Azerbaijani antimonopoly policy will be brought into line with European, head of the State Service for Antimonopoly Policy and Consumer Protection under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economic Development Zahid Isayev told media on Wednesday.
He said that at present, the Azerbaijani Parliament is considering the bill.
"The measures taken toward violators of anti-monopoly legislation are ineffective," he said. "Checks carried out in this area do not receive an appropriate legal assessment."
He said the shortcomings and gaps in existing legislation are the main problem.
Baku is hosting the international conference 'Role of anti-monopoly policy in economic development' today, organised by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economic Development with the support of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), and timed to the 20th anniversary of the State Service for Antimonopoly Policy and Consumer Protection.
The role of anti-monopoly policy in economic development, further challenges and prospects are being discussed during the conference. The work of the antimonopoly body will be assessed following the meeting.
