U.S. Department of State comments on Caspian gas pipeline project

Senior Advisor to Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy at the U.S. Department of State
Daniel Stein has said if Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan agree on Caspian gas pipeline construction, then no country will be able to veto the decision.

He spoke at a traditional oil and gas exhibition and conference in Baku. Stein said that the Southern Corridor was one of the highest goals of the U.S.` Eurasian policy. According to him, the second phase of Shah Deniz project would also be an important part of the Southern Corridor.

Stein noted that the Southern Corridor has other sources too, including other fields of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. “Turkmen gas can be transported through the territory of Azerbaijan by the Trans-Caspian pipeline,” he added.
