U.S. interested in energy secure and stable Europe

06 June 2012 [15:53] - TODAY.AZ
The U.S. is interested in energy secure and stable Europe, so it has the goal to support the country-suppliers of energy resources, such as Azerbaijan, a senior advisor of the office of the Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy of the U.S. Department of State, Daniel Stein, said at the 19th International Caspian Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference.

"Unfortunately, some European countries depend on only one source of exports. Our goal is to support the supplier countries, resulting in a better situation with competitive prices, routes, and so forth," Stein said.

He stressed that from this point of view it is important to develop Shah Deniz gas condensate field and the Southern Gas Corridor.

"There are several options for gas supplies to Europe, including the construction of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline, which will allow Turkmenistan to participate in this process," Stein said.

He said if Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan reach an agreement on laying the pipeline only within their territorial waters, no other party will be able to impose a veto on it.
