Baku's bid for 2020 Summer Olympics will be considered in city plan

The Baku City Building Plan will take into account an opportunity to hold the 2020 Summer Olympics Games, the State Committee for City Building and Architecture's statement reported.

First Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov and representatives of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) discussed with the State Committee's management opportunities and prospects of holding the Olympic Games in Baku in 2020.

"The guests were informed about work, responses on all questions were given," the statement reads.  The IOC confirmed Baku's bid to host the 2020 Summer Olympics.  Madrid, Rome, Tokyo, Istanbul and Doha will also compete to host the 2020 Summer Olympics. The first presentation of bids is supposed to be held in February, 2012. On Sep. 7, 2013 the IOC will elect the host city. The National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan submitted Baku's bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics, but those games were awarded to Rio de Janeiro.
