Azerbaijan to coordinate energy in GUAM

The GUAM countries supported Azerbaijan’s proposal on coordination of the Working Group on Energy Organization in 2012. This decision was made at the fifth meeting of the GUAM Working Group on Energy held in Baku yesterday.

The parties also agreed to appeal to the Council of National Coordinators with a request  to include the financing of feasibility studies in the field of LNG  transportation in the Black Sea-Caspian region into the agenda of the GUAM-Japan negotiations, as well as to request the Japanese side to assist in mapping solar and wind potential of the GUAM member states. The parties also will intensify cooperation in the energy sector to develop new projects to achieve the "Strategy of development of GUAM Sector Cooperation" in the energy field.

The GUAM countries discussed preparations for the seminar on energy security to be organized by Japan for the experts of the GUAM Member States on Jan. 15-23 in Japan. The participants agreed to hold a regular meeting of the Working Group on Energy in 2012.
