             Azerbaijani athlete Teymur Mammadov, who won the gold medal in boxing at the First European Games in Baku June 25, told reporters that he intends to get a license for Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
Mammadov thanked everyone who supported him and said that he is very happy.
“I won the gold medal and was awarded personally by President Ilham Aliyev,” said the boxer.
Teymur Mammadov, competing in men’s 81 kg boxing event, captured the gold medal by defeating Italy’s Valentino Manfredonia, who settled for the silver medal.
The bronze medal was taken by Ukraine’s Oleksandr Khyzhniak.
The European Games that kicked off June 12, will last till June 28. There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.
More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe came to Baku to represent their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
