Romanian minister arrives in Baku for European Games

Gabriela Szabo, the Romanian Youth and Sports Minister, has arrived in Azerbaijan to attend the inaugural European Games that Baku is going to host in between June 12 and 28.

The Romanian minister was met at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport by Daniel Cristian Ciobanu, the Romanian ambassador to Baku and members of the embassy on June 11.

The Romanian athletes who will struggle for medals at the Baku 2015 arrived in the county on June 9. The Romanian team consists of 147 athletes, including 83 men and 64 women. Chief of the Romanian mission at the Games is Alexandru Epuran.

The athletes were met at the airport by the Romanian ambassador, who wished athletes good luck and many gold medals.

He expressed hope that ambition and determination of the members of Romanian team will help them achieve good results.

Romanian athletes said that they will do their best in the competition.

Baku 2015 is an exciting and innovative multi-sport event that will brought together more than 6,000 athletes across Europe over 17 days.

The athletes will compete in 20 sports, some 16 of which are Olympic and four -- non-Olympic.

Twelve of the sports will offer qualification opportunities for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Those sports include Archery, Athletics, Boxing, Cycling, Judo, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Triathlon, Volleyball and Wrestling.
