Baku 2015 European Games revealed Culture 2015, a program of events to take place in June across Baku to highlight the rich and diverse culture of Azerbaijan, on June 10.

Supported by the First Lady of Azerbaijan and Chair of the Baku 2015 European Games Organizing Committee, Mehriban Aliyeva, the Culture 2015 program has been put together by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Culture and Tourism Ministry, and a variety of independent cultural venues.

The program draws on Azerbaijan’s history of cultural exchange. Its position between East and West has resulted in a unique heritage that includes ancient historical sites, mugham, classical and jazz music, opera, dance and theater, and an extensive collection of traditional and contemporary art.

“Hosting the first European Games is a great honor for Azerbaijan and provides our young country with a unique opportunity to showcase our rich culture and hospitality,” said Azad Rahimov, Youth and Sports Minister and Baku 2015 Chief Executive Officer. “I am delighted that our visitors will have the opportunity to sample our magnificent cultural venues and the diverse range of events taking place across the city throughout the Games.”

Baku 2015 has worked with its partners to produce a comprehensive Culture 2015 brochure containing a guide to all the key cultural venues in Baku and events and exhibitions taking place.

The venues include Baku’s historic Old City and the Gobustan National Park, both of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as well as the State Opera and Ballet Theatre, the recently refurbished National Museum of Art, the newly-built Carpet Museum and the Heydar Aliyev Center.

All of the cultural venues will offer events and exhibitions throughout the Games, giving visitors an exciting opportunity to experience the history and culture of Azerbaijan, alongside a program of visiting artists and musicians from Europe and around the world.

Abulfas Garayev, Culture and Tourism Minister, said: “Culture 2015 has been designed to offer visitors a taste of the extraordinary variety of culture in our city and I am sure that the program will entertain, educate and inspire. I wish all of our guests an enjoyable stay in Baku, and invite them to sample the many events on offer.”

The brochure, which includes maps, ticket and practical information, is free of charge and available at various destinations around the city including hotels, cultural venues, and both Baku 2015 and other ticket offices.
