Baku 2015 holds first Chefs de Mission seminar

Members from 34 NOCs have already arrived at the Athletes Village.

Baku 2015 has held the first Chefs de Mission seminar, welcoming the 34 NOC delegations which have already arrived at the Athletes Village.

NOC team members and Baku 2015 staff were joined by representatives of the European Olympic Committees for the meeting, the first of a series of regular Chefs de Mission briefings intended to provide NOCs with updates on the Games, in order to assist with their planning and operations.

The next Chefs de Mission meeting is scheduled for June 9, with subsequent briefing taking place every second day.

Baku 2015 European Games is the first Games of the continent, which will be held in the capital of Azerbaijan on June 12-28. The Games will gather over 6,000 athletes from 50 countries to show their abilities in 20 sports.

Some 16 of these sports will be Olympic and four non-Olympic. Twelve of the sports will offer qualification opportunities for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Those sports include Archery, Athletics, Boxing, Cycling, Judo, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Triathlon, Volleyball and Wrestling.

Baku was awarded the Games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
