Zardab welcomes torch of European Games

The torch of the First European Games has been delivered to Azerbaijan’s Zardab region.

A solemn welcoming ceremony for the torch was held on the Flag Square in Zardab city on May 12.

The torch was handed to Bakhtiyar Nuraliyev at the symbolic gates of the First European Games.

World and European karate champion Narmin Jamalzade lit a special commemorative lamp which will remain lit and on display in Zardab until the Closing Ceremony of the Games.

The event featured demonstration of a footage highlighting a ceremony to light the flame of Baku 2015 first European Games in Ateshgah temple.

Following, the torch continued its journey heading to Terter region.

The flame of Baku 2015 started its journey across Azerbaijan on April 26 from sacred temple of Ateshkah near Baku. By now, it has already covered Nakhchivan and the Southern regions of the country and even came to the frontline in Aghdam.

Baku 2015 European Games will gather over 6,000 athletes from 50 countries to compete in 20 sports, including 16 Olympic.

The Journey of the Flame is bringing the spirit of Baku Games across Azerbaijan from April 26. In some 48 days, the spirit of Baku 2015 will inspire 60 regions across Azerbaijan, to finally arrive in the magnificent Baku National Stadium on June 12.
