Integration group of the Operation Committee of the first European Games Baku 2015 has held a conference on transport issues.

The event attended by representatives of numerous state and governmental structures discussed the transport policy of the Games, special road stripes, the transport communication program, main directions of transport, main route network of the games and other issues.

BEGOC transport department representative Vusal Rajabli said the capital’s transport system is completely ready for the Games.

He noted that special stripes will be reserved on designated route to facilitate transportation during the Games.

“These stripes will be completed in late May. Other vehicles will not be able to use these stripes. Therefore, the subway will be the only transport facility the public will use. Drawing these stripes will start soon. Citizens are recommended to use public transportation,” he said.

BEGOC official noted that parking also will come under strict control. According to him, the switching of working time to the phased schedule will help eliminate traffic jams.

“High-capacity transport facilities will enter the city at night. Transport facilities will have badges. This will also concern taxis. The metro does not cover all the venues of the European Games so we needed to come with alternatives. Therefore, special centers will be established near the 8 metro stations to transport fans to and from the venues”, he said.

He also noted that only those transport facilities with special permission (BEGOC and police cars) will be able to park in those restricted parking spaces. While all vehicles can pass through the parking control zones without special permission no unlawful parking will be tolerated.

The inaugural European Games Baku 2015 is an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent. It will take place on June 12-28, gathering over 6,000 athletes to compete in 20 sports.
