Through foreigners’ eyes: 1st European Games more than sports event

The start of the European Games is near and the anticipation of the high-scale event grows from day to day. This is felt both inside and outside the country.

In particular, those foreigners who study in Azerbaijan, namely students, believe the upcoming European Games will be a spectacle to remember. An ADA University student from Syria, Ammar Hasan is one of them.

"The First European Games is more than a sports event," he said, speaking with Trend. "It makes Azerbaijan more known in Europe and the whole world, since many delegations from different countries will participate."

He added that the First European Games will also encourage more and more people to visit Azerbaijan as a tourism destination.

Baku 2015 is the first ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
