Through foreigners’ eyes: Great opportunity for Baku to host first European Games

It is a great opportunity for Baku to host the first European Games this summer, Hickman Randall J., BP Azerbaijan representative from the US told Trend.

“Visitors to the Games from Europe or other distant nations will find that their previous perceptions of the city do not match reality,” he said. “The city has undergone a ‘facelift’ in recent years with construction of many new, modern buildings and structures.”

“It is also a great opportunity for city residents to see top athletes compete,” he said. “I hope to see several events in person.”

Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent, which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.

There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
