Baku 2015 Athlete Ambassadors Marko Savic, Dusan Domovic Bulut and Marko Zdero of the Serbia Basketball 3x3 team have given their seal of approval to Baku 2015 facilities and the Athletes Village ahead of the first ever European Games.

The three athletes, who will compete in the new discipline of Basketball 3x3 during Baku 2015, visited the Baku 2015 Athletes’ Village after competing in a 3x3 Basketball international friendly tournament in the city, a tournament they won.

Zdero and Savic were part of the Serbian team that won the inaugural Basketball 3x3 World Championship in a nail-biting final in 2012, and all three were part of the team that finished second in 2014.

Savic, the tallest of the three athletes at 198 cm, applauded Baku as a host city, saying: “I think Baku is stunning, and, from what I’ve seen, the facilities for the European Games are first-class. I’ve heard that Azerbaijan is a sports-mad country, and you can feel the excitement around the city as the Games get closer. To compete in front of such crowds, on such an amazing stage as the first ever European Games, is a very proud moment for all of us.”

“I am really pleased that we were able to come to Baku and familiarise ourselves with the city in a competition setting,” Zdero said. “ The European Games is a major competition for us, so this weekend was essential practice for us as we enter the final stages of preparation for Baku 2015.”

According to Bulut: “It will be the first ever European Games, and we are aiming to create history by becoming the first ever European Games champions in Basketball 3x3. I am really honoured to be coming back to represent Serbia at Baku 2015.”

The innovative Basketball 3x3 competition will see 128 athletes compete over four days, from 23 June with two medal events on the programme. Tickets can be purchased directly from 11 conveniently located ticket outlets around Baku, including Park Bulvar, 28 Mall, and Metro Park Baku, and online at Baku2015.com/tickets

The Serbia basketball 3x3 team, consisting of Dusan Domovic Bulut, Marko Savic, Marko Zdero and Dejan Majstorovic, joins German table tennis player Dimitrij Ovtcharov, Greek fencer Vassiliki Vougiouka, Irish boxer Katie Taylor, Team GB’s taekwondo athlete Jade Jones, French rhythmic gymnast Kseniya Moustafaeva, Denmark’s canoe sprinter Rene Holten Poulsen, and Poland mountain biker Maja Wloszczowska, as Baku 2015 international Athlete Ambassadors, with more to be announced in the near future.

Earlier, Serbia has announced its athletes for the inaugural event. The list includes 79 sportsmen.

The first ever sporting event will open in the newly-built brand Olympic Stadium in Baku on June 12. Through 17 days of competition, over 6,000 sportsmen will represent 50 countries in 20 sports.
